MADISON, Wisconsin -- Edgewood College junior Adam Eck may be stepping into a new league, but at least for his first game he'll be in a familiar city. Eck, a new member of the expansion Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, will open the 2017 Northwoods League season on Tuesday night at Warner Park against the Madison Mallards. This is Eck's first season in the collegiate wood bat summer league.
Eck finished his junior year for Edgewood College with a perfect 4-0 record and a 4.54 earned run average in eight starts. He finished the season in style with a 3-0 complete game, shutout victory over regionally ranked Concordia University Wisconsin on May 6. The St. Charles, Ill. native struck out 46 batters in 39.2 innings for a 10.44 rate of strikeouts per nine innings. He currently holds the Eagles' career record in that same category at 9.68, with 95 career strikeouts in 88.1 innings.
Eck, a 6-4 left-hander, signed with the Dock Spiders for their inaugural season. The Northwoods League is an amateur summer league for players with collegiate baseball eligibility still remaining. A majority of the players are from NCAA Division I programs and scholarship-level junior college teams. The Dock Spiders play their home games at Herr-Baker Field, the home of fellow Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference member Marian University.
