Benedictine University's Luther Newburn and Alex Tyler have been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week for events of Dec. 5-11, as selected by the league's sports information directors.
Newburn (Chicago, Illinois) set a school record with the top mark in the nation in the triple jump -- 15.20 meters -- at the Indiana Tech Open. The freshman also competed in the long jump with a mark of 6.60 meters.
Tyler (St. John, Indiana) posted the fifth-best mark nationally in the high jump, as she finished second overall at 1.65 meters at the Indiana Tech Open. The freshman competed in four individual events, placing 12th in the 200-meter dash (27.05), 13th in the long jump (5.08) and 16th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.29).
