LISLE, Illinois -- D3hoops.com has released the 2016-17 all-region teams and Benedictine University senior Tahron Harvey has earned a position on the All-Central Region First Team.
Harvey was named as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. The Glenbard East product led Benedictine in scoring at 18.8 points per game, a career high. Harvey also averaged 7.5 rebounds, second on the team, and 6.3 assists. Harvey shot 52.4 percent from the floor, 77.1 percent from the free throw line and 37.1 percent from three-point range.
Harvey became the first player in program history to accumulate 1,000 career points, 400 rebounds, 350 assists and 100 steals. Harvey joined the 1,000-point club in December and finished with 1,391 points, 11th in school history. Harvey scored a career best 31 points in the season-opening victory over Wheaton and bettered the mark with 34 in a conference road win at Marian. The Country Club Hills, Ill. resident scored in double figures in all but one game, surpassing 20 points on 13 occasions. Harvey was chosen as the conference player of the week three times and added three appearances on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, honoring the best performances around the nation.
Harvey tallied a pair of triple-doubles on the season, with one coming in the conference championship game. Harvey was part of a senior class that won three consecutive conference championships, reached back-to-back NCAA Tournaments, and advanced to the national championship game in 2016. The honor marked the second for Harvey, who earned a third team all-region slot last year.
Benedictine finished the season 23-5, reaching the NCAA Tournament for a second consecutive season. The team lost in the opening round of the tourney to Wartburg College. Benedictine was ranked in every D3hoops.com Top 25 poll leading into the tournament.
