MADISON, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Illinois Institute of Technology posted a pair of 5-0 victories Sunday to capture the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Tennis Tournament crown at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

The top-seeded Scarlet Hawks (18-9) shut out fourth-seeded Edgewood, 5-0, in the morning semifinals, then dispatched second-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin by the same score in the final later in the day. CUW had advanced to the final with a 5-1 over third-seeded MSOE in the other semifinal.

The Scarlet Hawks cruised to victory in their semfinal match, earning victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in addition to default victories at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles. IIT's No. 1 doubles tandem of Franklin Zhong and Pol de Santiago posted an 8-4 win, while Yousef Abdo and Mohammed Shamel picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Semifinal - No. 2 Concordia Wisconsin def. No. 3 MSOE, 5-1 (Boxscore)
CUW moved out to a 2-1 lead after doubles, picking up wins from the tandems of Nathan Raskin and Nolan Rademacher (8-1) at No. 2 doubles and Gabe Binversie and Cole Werning (8-4) at No. 3 doubles. MSOE grabbed their lone point of the match with an 8-5 win from Luke Nelson and David Chon over Christain Docter and Logan Snyder at first doubles.

The Falcons were first-set winners in four of six singles matches, closing out the match with wins from Peter Kloda at No. 4 (6-1, 7-6 [4]), Binversie at No. 5 (1-6, 6-4, 6-0) and Tim Peters at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4).

Illinois Tech grabbed an early lead by sweeping the doubles competition. Brody Croonquist and Davis Housman earned an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot, while the tandems of Zhong/de Santiago and Abdo/Shamel earned matching 8-5 victories at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

The Scarlet Hawks took the first set in all six singles matches. At that point, it was simply a matter of time. Housman provided the penultimate tally with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Peter Kloda at No. 4 singles. The match-clinching point came a short time later as Shamel defeated Tim Peters, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 sigles.

With the tournament title - the first for the Scarlet Hawks in any sport as a member of the NACC - Illinois Tech also received the NACC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. IIT will find out its NCAA tournament destination Monday morning.
