MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Defending champion and 2018 NCAA Division III semifinalist Dominican University has been picked to win the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's volleyball championship according to the preseason poll released Monday. The poll was voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Dominican finished 26-8 last season, splitting the inaugural NACC title with Benedictine before capturing the first league tournament crown and advancing to the NCAA semifinals.
The Stars received 10 of 18 first-place votes and 154 points in the preseason poll. The Eagles (21-6, 10-2 NACC a year ago) rank a close second with 150 points and the remaining eight first-place votes, while MSOE ranks third with 124 points.
Marian University sits fourth with 92 points, while Aurora University and Lakeland University are tied for fifth with 86 points apiece.
NACC newcomer Illinois Institute of Technology was seventh with 56 points, followed by Concordia University Wisconsin's 40 points and Concordia University Chicago's 22.
Marian kicks off the 2019 season this weekend with four matches at the Slug Slam hosted by UC Santa Cruz. Dominican gets underway Tuesday, Jan. 15, with a match at Lewis University. Conference play begins Wednesday, Feb. 6, when Concordia Wisconsin hosts MSOE, and concludes Saturday, April 6 with a full slate of four matches.
The top six teams in the final NACC standings at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the NACC Men's Volleyball Tournament, while the tournament champion receives the NACC's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship.
