Aurora University's men's outdoor track & field team is ranked in the week one National Team Computer Rankings released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The 4th-ranked Spartans vaulted 15 spots between the preseason and week one. Aurora surged 45.82 points during that span, in large part due to the efforts of junior thrower Ryan Njegovan. He unleashed several big throws this past weekend, including the top mark in NCAA DIII in the discus throw (57.63m/189-1) and the 5th best mark in the shot put (17.10m/56-1¼) according to the USTFCCCA Event Rankings.
For those uninitiated, the National Team Computer Rankings are compiled by a mathematical formula based on the NCAA Division III Descending Order Lists. Marks from previous seasons are included until enough data can be drawn from the current season and current freshmen aren't included in the rankings until they compete in an outdoor meet. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the race for a national title. Ranking points don't equate with points that will be scored at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
