Montiel, a senior forward, opened the year by averaging 16.5 points per game and nine rebounds as Benedictine opened the year 2-0 with wins over (RV) Wheaton and Lake Forest. The three-time all-conference selection notched a double-double against Wheaton with 10 points and 11 rebounds in a 60-59 victory and poured in 23 with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 107-82 win over Lake Forest. Montiel finished 10-of-13 from the field in the Lake Forest win.
