MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Marian University's Aaron Velasco (Honolulu, Hawai'i) and Milwaukee School of Engineering's Carter Shavitz (Northbrook, Ill.) have been named the initial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week for the 2023 season (Jan. 14-22), as selected by the league's athletics communications directors.

Defense --- Aaron Velasco, Jr., OH, Marian University
Velasco, a junior outside hitter, paced the Marian back row averaging 3.30 digs per set over the first five matches of the season. He had double-digit digs in four of the five matches with 24 coming against a Stevenson team that was receiving votes in the national poll. Velasco also had a 14-dig, 11-kill double-double in three sets against Baldwin Wallace.

Offense --- Carter Shavitz, Jr., OH, Milwaukee School of Engineering
Shavitz had a career-best weekend as the Raiders took on Augustana and No. 7 SUNY New Paltz in a triangular. He averaged 3.88 kills per set to go along with 0.25 assists and 0.38 blocks. Shavitz's .463 hitting percentage on the weekend was put together with 17 kills (.577) and four aces against Augustana in a 3-1 win before he slammed another 14 (.357) home in a 3-1 loss to New Paltz.
