MONTGOMERY, Ill. (naccsports.org) --- Benedictine University and Concordia University Wisconsin emerged victorious after the second day of double-elimination bracket play Saturday at the 2025 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Softball Tournament and will meet for the championship at 11 a.m. Sunday at Bedrosian Stadium.
As the lone remaining undefeated team in the tournament, Concordia Wisconsin needs just one win to capture the title, while Benedictine will need to defeat the Falcons twice.
The tournament champion also secures the NACC's automatic berth in the 2025 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
The top-seeded Falcons (30-10) have taken the most direct path to the championship series, twirling a no-hitter Friday to dispatch Milwaukee School of Engineering. CUW then plated three in the first inning of the winner's bracket final against Benedictine on Saturday and made them hold up for a 3-2 victory.
The third-seeded Eagles (30-14) have played four games over the tournament's first three days, posting a 3-1 mark. Benedictine defeated No. 7-seed Lakeland, 7-2, on Thursday to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament, then posted a 5-2 win over No. 2-seed Dominincan on Friday to move into the winner's bracket final.
After falling to Concordia Wisconsin to open their Saturday, the Eagles were faced with a rematch against Dominican in an elimination game. The Stars plated a pair in the bottom of the first, but Benedictine rallied in the second, tagging Dominican starting pitcher Emma Woodhouse with four runs to chase her from the contest. The Eagles added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to push the lead to 6-2. Faced with elimination, Dominican responded with four runs to tie the game and had the bases loaded with the game-winning run on third base but Sara Cornell flew out to center field to end the inning.
Both teams went scoreless in the eighth inning, but Benedictine was able to capitalize on a pivotal Dominican miscue in the ninth as Jasmine Lozano reached on an error at second base. Jenna Bartke double down the left-field line to put runners at second and third bases. Taylor Oppenhuis followed that with a single to right field that scored both Bartke and Lozano. In th circle, Lozano scored the win after retirning the Stars in order in the ninth inning.
