Aurora Uses Record Round to Extend Lead at 2026 NACC Women's Golf Championships

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (naccsports.org) --- Aurora University carded six scores of 80 or better en route to a league-record total of 294 Sunday at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club, extending its overall lead at the 2026 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Golf Championships to 43 strokes after 36 holes.

The Spartans paired Sunday's record total with a first-round 297 and takes a 15-over 591 total into Monday's final round. Marian University (314-320--634) posted a second-round 320 and holds a one-stroke edge over Lake Forest College (319-316--635) for second place, while St. Norbert College (324-318--642) is just seven strokes back of the Foresters in fourth place.

Milwaukee School of Engineering (326-338--664) sits solidly in fifth, followed by Edgewood University (341-353--694) in sixth. Concordia University Wisconsin (385-361--746) shaved 24 strokes off its first-round total in round two and is seventh overall, while Benedictine University (390-384--774) holds eighth place by a mere three strokes over Wisconsin Lutheran College (398-379--777). Alverno College also made a 20-stroke improvement from Saturday to Sunday and is 10th with a 484-461--945 total.

Aurora's record round erased the NACC all-time mark of 295 (+7) set earlier this fall by the Spartans at the Carthage Firebird Fall Invitational. It - and the first round mark of 9-over 297 - both improved on the NACC Championship single-round mark of 303 set in last year's final round.

Indivdually, Aurora's Thanpimol Tharpanawongwech posted three birdies and an eagle en route to a second-round 70 and a 146 total. She leads the medalist race by one stroke over teammate Avery Arendell (75-72--147), who had three birdies Sunday as part of an even-par 72. Day one leader Yinan Lu (73-75--148) of Marian is tied for third with Aurora's Anna Simpson (74-74--148), while Aurora's Anna Coccia (72-78--150) rounds out the top five.

St. Norbert's Ava Frederiksen (sixth, 78-77--155) and Vivien Ninham (tie-seventh, 80-76--156), Aurora's Ava Kalt (tie-seventh, 76-80--156), Lake Forest's Paulina Molteni Posada (eighth, 83-75--158) and Sophie Smith (tie-10th, 78-81--159), and MSOE's Maggie Urich (tie-10th, 78-81--159) round out the top-10.

Tharpanawongwech, who earlier this year became the first NACC women's golfer to break 70 in competition, tied the NACC Championship single-round record of 70 set by Concordia Wisconsin's Muriel McIntyre in 2011. The round also sets a new single-round record in relation to par at 2-under as McIntyre's round came on the old par-71 layout at St. Andrews.

Monday's final round begins at 9 a.m. with the top four teams - Aurora, Marian, Lake Forest, and St. Norbert - going off the No. 1 tee. The remainder of the field will utilize a shotgun format off the back nine.
