QUARTERFINAL RECAPS
No. 1 Illinois Tech 1, No. 8 Concordia Chicago 0
The Scarlet Hawks began their pursuit of a third-straight conference tournament championship by using a strong defensive performance to survive the eighth-seeded Cougars at Stuart Field in Chicago, Illinois. It was much closer than their regular-season matchup, which Illinois Tech won 6-0.

Just under five minutes into the game, it was Emma Conway of Illinois Tech who took the first shot of the game, although it was off-target.

The Cougars got their first shot of the game off just under four minutes later, with Mia Hirayama sending a kick over the top right.

The first shot on goal was taken by Eva Navarte, with Cougars goalkeeper Naomi Gonzales making the save. Neither team was able to get on the board in the first 45, and the game was scoreless going into halftime.

Illinois Tech got on the board just over twelve minutes into the second half, when the Scarlet Hawks were able to make the most of a corner kick. After a shot by Tvesa Vathulya was deflected out by Gonzales, Conway was able to put the ball in the back of the net to get Illinois Tech on the board first, with Vathulya recording the assist.

Concordia Chicago was unable to get a shot off in the second half due to Illinois Tech’s strong defense, and Gonzales made six saves throughout the rest of the half, giving Illinois Tech the close 1-0 win.

Offensively, the Scarlet Hawks held a 24-2 advantage in shots overall and an 11-0 edge in shots on goal. Hirayama had both shot attempts for CUC, while Taylor Hernandez led the Scarlet Hawks with six shots, three of which were on goal.

Gonzales made ten total saves in the game for CUC, while Illinois Tech keeper Clara Estiandan didn’t have to make any. The Scarlet Hawks had seven corner kicks to the Cougars’ zero, and Illinois Tech was called for offsides three times, with the Cougars being called for it once.

No. 2 Dominican 4, No. 7 St. Norbert 0
When the Dominican Stars took on the St. Norbert Green Knights for the second time this season, the result was the same as the first one: Dominican prevailed 4-0, scoring two goals in each half to defeat the Green Knights at West Campus Field in River Forest, Illinois.

The first shot of the game was taken by Sierra Rioux of the Stars just under three minutes into the game, and it was the first shot on goal of the game, as Leah Hess of St. Norbert had to snag it in the center of the goal to keep the game scoreless.

After sustained offensive pressure, Dominican was able to score the first goal of the game, with the goal coming from Grace Durante. It was assisted by Kylena Paredes and Mackenzie Cuddihy.

Dominican was able to double its lead just under ten minutes later, when Durante once again contributed to a goal. This time, it was with an assist, as she got the ball to Tia Garr. Garr, who had six goals for the Stars in the regular season, nabbed her first of the postseason, finding the back of the net to put Dominican up 2-0.

St. Norbert got its first shot of the game off with less than six minutes to go until half, with Trinity Popelka sent one towards the bottom center of the net. Sarah Appleby made the save for Dominican, keeping the Stars up 2-0, which is what the score would be going into halftime.

The Stars didn’t need much time in the second half to add to their lead, as Kaylie Reeve scored her first goal of the game just over two minutes into the half. Durante assisted on the goal, her second assist of the game.

Just 63 seconds later, Garr notched her second goal of the game off a pass by Reeve, putting Dominican up 4-0, which is what the final would end up being.

Dominican out-shot St. Norbert 26-1, with the Stars having 15 shots on goal to St. Norbert’s one. Durante had a goal and two assists in the game, Garr had two goals, Reeve had a goal and an assist, and Cuddihy had one assist. Wilhite led the Stars with five shots, two of which were on goal. Popelka took the only shot of the game for the Green Knights.

In goal, Hess made ten saves for St. Norbert, while Appleby made one. Dominican had 12 corner kicks to the Green Knights’ zero, and were called offsides twice, while St. Norbert was not whistled for it at all.

No. 3 MSOE 6, No. 6 Concordia Wisconsin 1
Milwaukee School of Engineering was able to avenge its one and only regular season conference loss, scoring three goals in each half to advance to the conference semifinals over Concordia Wisconsin at Viets Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Raiders wasted no time, and came into the game swinging. Claire Bradford took the first shot of the game, and the first shot on goal, just 32 seconds into the game, with Kara Claussner making the save for CUW.

Hadleigh Ostrenga put the ball in the back of the net 37 seconds later to give the Raiders an early lead. On the play, Shealan Biniam and Kit Gormley both recorded an assist for MSOE.

Just over two minutes later, Biniam added to her day with a goal of her own to double the Raiders’ lead.

The Falcons didn’t go down quietly, and were able to take advantage of a corner kick to cut MSOE’s lead in half with just over 12 minutes having gone by. Lanie Czerkies had the goal for Concordia Wisconsin, with Christine Long getting the assist.

Both teams traded shots for the rest of the first half, until Faith Papazoglou was able to put the ball in the back of the net with just over eight minutes left in the first half. McKinley Collins had an assist on the play, and MSOE went into halftime with a 3-1 lead.

MSOE came out firing once again to start again, and it paid off for the Raiders, with Papazoglou scoring her second goal of the game four-and-a-half minutes into the second half.

The Raiders kept applying pressure offensively, and a goal by Katie Owens about thirteen minutes later added to MSOE’s lead.

Claire Bradford scored the sixth and final goal for the Raiders about five minutes later, with Papazoglou getting her first assist of the game. The Raiders defense allowed just one shot attempt by CUW in the rest of the game, and MSOE was able to score the win.

The Raiders out-shot Concordia Wisconsin 28-3, and had twelve shots on goal to the Falcons’ two. Papazoglou had two goals and an assist for MSOE, Biniam had a goal and an assist, Ostrenga, Owens, and Bradford each had a goal apiece, and Gormley and Collins each had an assist. In the net, Claussner played the first half for the Falcons, making two saves. Aubrey Johnson was in the goal for the second half, and made four saves. Raiders goalie Teya Baxter made one save. Concordia Wisconsin had eight corner kicks to the Raiders’ seven, and both teams were called for offsides once.

No. 4  Edgewood 1, No. 5 Wisconsin Lutheran 0
In a defense-heavy matchup, one goal less than ten minutes into the game was all that Edgewood needed to take down Wisconsin Lutheran at Edgewood University Field at Reddan Park in Verona, Wisconsin. Despite finishing the game with one-third of WLC's overall shot total, Edgewood was able to sneak away with the win.

WLC took the first shot of the game six minutes in, with Emma Adema’s shot being saved by Madline Brown.

Edgewood took its first shot of the game three minutes later, and Tateum Speich’s shot was on point, getting into the back of the net and putting the Eagles in front. Sarah Bolchen had an assist on the play.

The Eagles had just one more shot in the remainder of the first half, while the Warriors had five. However, none of the Warriors’ shots were able to get past Brown, and Edgewood took the lead into halftime.

The two teams traded shots throughout the second half, but each team’s respective goalkeeper made the plays their defense needed them to make, and Speich’s goal ended up being the only one scored in the game.

Despite the loss, WLC out-shot Edgewood 17-6. The Warriors had four shots on goal, while Edgewood had three. The goal by Spreich and assist by Bolchen was the first of the postseason for each player. Alaena Zastrow and Morgan Bluhm both had three shots for the Warriors. Two of Zastrow’s were on goal, while one of Bluhm’s was. Riley Haertle led the Eagles with two shots, one of which was on goal.

Defensively, Sam Schroeder made two saves for Wisconsin Lutheran, while Madeline Brown made four for Edgewood. Both teams had three corner kicks, and both teams were whistled for offsides once.
