AURORA, Ill. --- Aurora University football junior quarterback Gavin Zimbelman (Manteno, Ill.)was named to the CoSIDA District VII Academic All-District Team, which was announced on Thursday. Zimbelman earns the honor for his combined performances in the classroom and on the field.

The Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA member sports information directors within the district based on the student-athletes' academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field. To be considered for the honor, the nominated student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average throughout their academic career at AU. In the classroom, Zimbelman carries a 3.92 grade point average as a double major in business administration and sport management.

Thus far on the 2019 season, Zimbelman has completed 224 of 351 passes for 2,945 yards and 46 touchdowns while rushing for 312 yards and two touchdowns. He has set a new single-season record for touchdown passes in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference while also setting new AU single-season and career records in numerous categories including single season: yards passing, completions, attempts and touchdowns and career records in yards passing, attempts, completions, and touchdowns.

Entering the final week of the regular season, he is currently ranked in the top 8 in Division III in seven statistical categories, leading the country in total offense (361.9), passing touchdowns (46), points responsible for (290) and points responsible for per game (32.2) while ranking third in passing yards (2,945), fourth in passing yards per game (327.2) and seventh in completions per game (24.89).
