RIVER FOREST, Ill. (naccsports.org) --- Top-seeded Dominican University captured its 11th Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Soccer Tournament title in 14 years with a 6-0 win over third-seeded Benedictine University Saturday at West Campus Field.
Dominican (16-2-3) wasted little time finding the back of the net as Jonathan Hernandez put the Stars up 1-0 with a goal in the seventh minute off assists from Nick Kowalczyk and Isaac Perez. The lead held until the 45th minute when Denis Soldo put a shot past Benedictine keeper Martin Jimenez-Estrada with just 35 seconds left in the half to put the Stars up 2-0 at the break.
Vicente Castro, the NACC Men's Soccer Freshman of the Year, increased the Dominican advantage to 3-0 with a goal in the 49th minute off an assist from Hernandez.
A red card issued to Benedictine's Hayden Van Son in the 57th minute left the Eagles one man down for the remainder of the match. Dominican was soon able to capitalize on their man advantage as Perez (63'), Hernandez (65') and Soldo (68') all notched goals within a five-minute span to double the Stars' lead to 6-0.
Daniel Dominguez made four saves in goal for Dominican, while Jimenez-Estrada made three saves for Benedictine.
With the victory, Dominican received the NACC's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. The entire NCAA field will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 via a selection show at NCAA.com.
