Trio of NACC Men's Soccer Student-Athletes Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Three Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) men's soccer student-athletes have been recognized as CoSIDA Academic All-District selections for their combined performances in the classroom and on the field.

Edgewood College senior Sean Surtees (Madison, Wis.) was named to the District 6 team consisting of student-athletes from schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, while Aurora University senior Matt Napolitano (Bloomington, Ill.) and junior Henry Zehnal (Aurora, Ill.) were named to the District 7 team consisting of student-athletes from schools in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio

Surtees led the Eagles with 24 points this season, scoring a team-best 11 goals and adding two assists. He finished the year with a team-best 49 shots, 28 of those on goal. Surtees scored in eight different matches, including picking up a hat trick at Viterbo University and adding two second-half goals in a comeback win over Lakeland University.

Zehnal, a midfielder and double major in sports management and marketing, is now a two-time recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-District honor. He finished the 2019 season as a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference First-Team All-Conference selection. On the season, Zehnal had 17 points on six goals and five assists with three of his goals coming as game-winning goals. while helping the AU defense that allowed 1.40 goals against while posting three shutouts and limited opponents to one goal or less in 11 contests.

Napolitano, a midfielder and business administration major, finished the 2018 season as a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference First-Team All-Conference selection. He led AU offensively, picking up eight goals with one of those coming as a game-winner and one assist.

The Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA member sports information directors within the district based on the student-athletes' academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field. To be considered for the honor, the nominated student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average. All three honorees will now move on to the Academic All-America selection process.
