TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its latest NCAA Division III Central Region rankings on Thursday, and both Illinois Institute of Technology programs are represented.
The women's doubles tandem of Weronika Halicka and Morgan Colbert earned a ranking, as did Halicka in singles, while the Scarlet Hawk men cracked rankings as a team at No. 19.
Halicka and Colbert earned the poll's 11th doubles ranking. The duo has been outstanding this year, going 19-2 overall, 16-1 in No. 1 doubles, and 5-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matches. Dating back to last season, Halicka and Colbert are 38-5 lifetime as a pairing.
Individually, Halicka is ranked 12th in the poll. She has dominated all season long, going 17-2 overall, 15-1 in No. 1 singles, and 6-0 in NACC matches. In her Illinois Tech career, she is 32-2 overall and a staggering 30-1 in No. 1 singles competitions.
All season long, the Scarlet Hawks have proven to be one of the region's top squads, posting a 15-9 overall record while remaining unbeaten in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play at 8-0. Already having clinched a share of the NACC's regular season championship and the top seed in the NACC Tournament, the Scarlet Hawks have flat-out dominated conference foes, winning six of the eight matches by 9-0 scores.
The Illinois Tech women are seeded third in the upcoming NACC Tournament and host sixth-seeded Wisconsin Lutheran at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a first-round match. The Scarlet Hawk men have one final conference match slated for Saturday morning but have already locked down a share of the NACC title, the top seed in the NACC Tournament and a first-round bye.
The semifinal and championship rounds of the NACC Tournament will take place Sunday, May 5 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin.
