MSOE, Edgewood Advance to NACC Men's Tennis Tournament Semifinals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. ( --- Milwaukee School of Engineering and Edgewood College remained alive in the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Tennis Tournament with first-round victories Monday afternoon.

Edgewood, the No. 4 seed, advanced with a 5-3 win over No. 5-seeded Aurora, while No. 3-seeded MSOE shut out No. 6-seeded Dominican.

Edgewood 5, Aurora 3 (Boxscore)

Edgewood held a 2-1 advantage after doubles as Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Sabastion Seeger posted an 8-3 win over Chris LaPorte and Patrick MacDonald at No. 1 and Jackson Venske and Tommy Ebben routed Colin Ritchie and Joe Mascha, 8-1, at No. 2.

Seeger and Venske posted matching 6-1, 6-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, to leave the Eagles (8-13) within a point of clinching the match. Dornhagen Schradermeier provided the final point with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Jared Burrow at No. 1 singles.

Aurora (5-9) picked up its three points courtesy of Edgewood defaults at No. 3 doubles and Nos. 5 and 6 singles.

MSOE 5, Dominican 0 (Boxscore)

The Raiders (11-9) grabbed an early 3-0 advantage after sweeping doubles play. Curt Norton and Connor Splingaire grabbed an 8-1 win at third doubles, while the tandems of Luke Nelson and David Chon at No. 1 and Alec Dam and Bryan Roob at No. 2 each registered 8-2 victories.

MSOE grabbed the first set in all six singles matches with Nelson at the No. 1 spot and Norton at the No. 4 spot providing the match-clinching points with identical 6-0, 6-1 victories.

Dominican concluded its season at 6-9 overall.

Semifinals Set

Edgewood and MSOE advance to the semifinal round of the NACC Men's Tennis Tournament, to be held Sunday, May 5, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. As the lower remaining seed, Edgewood will take on top-seeded Illinois Tech (16-9), while MSOE advances to face second-seeded Concordia Wisconsin (15-7). First serve for both semifinal matches is slated for 9 a.m. with the tournament final to be contested later that day. The tournament champion receives the NACC's automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship.
