Illinois Tech Sweeps NACC Men's Tennis Major Awards; All-Conference Team Released

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) has announced its all-conference team and major award winners for the 2019 men's tennis season.

League champion Illinois Institute of Technology swept this year's major awards with Franklin Zhong was named NACC Player of the Year, Pol de Santiago earned NACC Freshman of the Year honors and Erik Scanlan was named NACC Coach of the Year.

Zhong, has posted a 25-18 record this season, including a 12-0 mark in league play. In singles play, he went 14-8 (7-0 in NACC play), splitting time between first, second and third singles. 

De Santiago, just 19-20 overall, has posted an 8-10 mark in singles play, including an 8-9 mark at No. 1 singles. Over the course of the season, he posted victories at No. 1 singles against Lake Forest, Hamilton, Concordia Wisconsin and Millikin.

Zhong and de Santiago spent the vast majority of the season as the Scarlet Hawks' top doubles tandem. The pair have posted a 10-10 mark overall, including a 4-0 mark in league play.

Scanlan has led the Scarlet Hawks to a 16-9 record in just the program's second season and a perfect 9-0 mark in league play in their inaugural NACC campaign. 

This year's all-conference honors were distributed among four institutions with Illinois Tech and Concordia University Wisconsin each placing four singles players and two doubles tandems on the team. Edgewood College and Milwaukee School of Engineering both had two singles players and a doubles tandem honored.

Fourteen different individuals received All-NACC honors with 10 - CUW's Christian Docter, Nolan Rademacher and Logan Snyder, Edgewood's Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Sabastion Seeger, Illinois Tech's de Santiago, Zhong and Yousef Abdo, and MSOE's David Chon and Luke Nelson receiving honors in both singles and doubles.
