MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Bill Curtis, former head softball coach and Director of Athletic Development at Wisconsin Lutheran College, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Curtis completed his eighth and final season as the Warriors' head coach in 2019 as WLC posted a 23-17 overall record (11-11 NACC) to qualify for the NACC Tournament for the second straight season and fifth time overall. Wisconsin Lutheran won two games in the conference tournament for the first time in program history and its 23 wins were the second-most all-time.
The 2014 NACC Co-Coach of the Year, Curtis guided WLC to its best season in program history as it finished 27-16 overall. The Warriors' 16-6 conference record tied the 2008 squad for most league victories. Curtis, who won 147 career games, including 81 in conference play, mentored 13 players to a total of 27 postseason honors in eight seasons as head coach.
Curtis, who also spearheaded WLC's "Believe In The Green" initiative, came to Wisconsin Lutheran after serving for four seasons (2008-2011) as the head girls' varsity softball coach at nearby Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
Curtis received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1980. Since 1983, he held sales management positions in the Milwaukee area with Airborne Express, Corporate Express, Pilot Air Freight, Unishippers, and most recently BXC Logistics. In addition, Curtis managed and coached the Masters swim program for the Southwest YMCA.
Visitation will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Muskego on Sunday, November 24 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with visitation from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
