AURORA, Ill. --- Aurora University women's volleyball junior libero Julia Wood was named to the CoSIDA District VII Academic All-District Team, which was announced on Thursday. Wood was selected for her combined performances in the classroom and on the field.
The Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA member sports information directors within the district based on the student-athletes' academic prowess while being a steady influence on their respective athletic field. To be considered for the honor, the nominated student-athletes are required to maintain a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average throughout their academic career at AU. Wood will now move on to the Academic All-America selection process.
On the court, Wood leads the Spartans into the 2019 NCAA Division III Regional Tournament at Calvin College. She leads AU with 5.56 digs per set and has 34 serving aces while maintaining a 4.00 grade point average as an elementary education major. This latest honor comes on the heels of Wood being named First-Team All-Region by the AVCA and Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference. In a growing list of accomplishments in her Spartan career, Wood was notably named the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Elite 90 recipient.
