James Mautino (Spring Valley, Ill.) and St. Norbert College junior
Sam Barnett (Trempealeau, Wis.) have been named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Football Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2023, as selected by the league's athletics communications professionals.
Offense --- Ian Luyando, jr., QB, Aurora University
Luyando, a junior quarterback, led Aurora to a 70-10 homecoming win over Eureka. In less than three quarters of action, Luyando tossed six touchdowns on 14-of-19 passing for 306 yards while adding 34 yards rushing. Luyando is now 66-of-100 passing this season with no interceptions.
Defense --- Sam Barnett, jr., LB, St. Norbert College
Barnett, a junior linebacker, led St. Norbert's defense in a 24-21 win over Lakeland. Barnett finished with a game-high 13 tackles, while adding two quarterback sacks, two tackles-for-loss, and one interception. The interception ended up being a key play in the game as it was a 46-yard pick-six that gave the Green Knights a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.
Special Teams --- James Mautino, sr., WR, Aurora University
Mautino, a senior wide receiver, returned a pair of punts in Aurora's 70-10 homecoming win over Eureka with one going 65-yards for a touchdown. He averaged 47.0 yards between the two returns and increased his season punt return average from 18.0 yards per return to 27.6 during the contest.
