Hot Start Leaves Aurora With 17-Stroke Lead After First Round of NACC Men's Golf Championships

KOHLER, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Aurora University took advantage of favorable scoring conditions early in the day Saturday to post a 1-over 289 total in the opening round of the 2025 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Golf Championships on the Meadow Valleys course at Blackwolf Run.

The six Spartan golfers posted a total of 16 birdies, including 11 on the front nine while carding six sub-80 rounds. St. Norbert College added four rounds of 78 or better and sits second after posting a 306 total. Edgewood University (315) is third overall, just ahead of Milwaukee School of Engineering (317) and Marian University (318). Concordia University Wisconsin and Wisconsin Lutheran College (both 323) are tied for sixth place, while Benedictine University (330) has a one-stroke edge on Lakeland University (331) for eighth.

Aurora's Jackson Hulsey posted four birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 4-under par but carded three bogeys on the back to finish with a 1-under-par 71. He leads the medalist race by one stroke over teammate Brandon Burggraf and Edgewood University's Raymond Jordan. Burggraf finished with three birdies and was 2-under through 12 holes before posting back-to-back bogeys. Jordan overcame a double bogey on the opening hole with four birdies but finished bogey-bogey to finish at even par.

Aurora's Caleb Negley and Christian Wakeford also posted four birdies apiece and sit tied for fourth place at 1-over 73. St. Norbert's Brendan Lange is sixth after an opening-round 74, while Marian's Wyatt Pfeiffer and Wisconsin Lutheran's Isaiah Schaser (both 75) are tied for seventh, St. Norbert's Dawson Fish (76) is ninth, and Aurora's Mattias Morris, Benedictine's Matthew Suchecki, Concordia Wisconsin's Jack MacGillis, and MSOE's Charlie Larson (all 77) are tied for 10th place.

Sunday's second round begins at 10 a.m. with the first of three waves. Players from Aurora, St. Norbert, and Edgewood will go off the No. 1 tee first, followed by a second wave consisting of players from MSOE, Marian, and Wisconsin Lutheran beginning at 10:54 a.m. The final wave - consisting of players from Concordia Wisconsin, Benedictine, Lakeland, and Dominican will begin at approximately 11:48 a.m.
