WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (naccsports.org) --- Aurora University posted an opening-round 322 team total Saturday and holds a three-stroke advantage over both Marian University and St. Norbert College after the first round of play at the 2025 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Golf Championships at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club.
The Spartans landed four players in the top 11 led by
Anna Coccia in third place after an 8-over 79.
Michelle Beggs and
Thanpimol Tharpanawongwech both posted 9-over 80s and are tied for sixth, while
Megan Kobelt is tied for 10th after an opening round 83.
The Sabres and Green Knights each posted an opening-round 325 total and have one player with a hand on the medalist lead after day one. Marian's
Yinan Lu and St. Norbert's
Emma Laundrie both shot 76 and lead the field of 53 golfers by three strokes. St. Norbert's
Vivien Ninham sits tied for third after matching Coccia with a first-round 79.
Madison Engebose of Milwaukee School of Engineering joins Ninham and Coccia in a tie for third after also carding a 79, while Edgewood University's
Grace Schomin (81) is eighth, Marian's
Jessy Merrell (82) is ninth, and Marian's
Allison Cink (83) is tied with Kobelt for 10th.
In the team race, MSOE sits solidly in fourth place after posting a 340 team total, while Benedictine and Edgewood are tied for fifth place on 362. Concordia University Wisconsin (371) is seventh, followed by Wisconsin Lutheran College (396) and Alverno College (585).
Teams return to the course at 11 a.m. Sunday morning for the second of three rounds of championship play. Players from the top three teams in the standings - Aurora, Marian, and St. Norbert - will tee off beginning at 11 a.m. with players from MSOE, Benedictine, and Edgewood to follow in a second wave beginning at 11:48 p.m. The final wave, consisting of players from Concordia Wisconsin, Wisconsin Lutheran, and Alverno, goes off beginning at 12:36 p.m.
