Wisconsin Lutheran Faces Gustavus Adolphus in NCAA Women's Hoops Opener

MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Wisconsin Lutheran College has claimed one of 64 berths in the field for the 2025 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, which begins with first-round play Friday, March 7.

The Warriors (21-7) have been drawn into a regional in St. Peter, Minnesota, and will face regional host and sixth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (26-1) in the opening round. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday on Gus Young Court inside Gustavus' Lund Center. 

Wisconsin Lutheran, which is in the NCAA championship field for the 13th time, reached the national tournament via the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) automatic bid, defeating St. Norbert, 57-54.

Wartburg College (25-2) and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (18-8) complete the four-team regional and will open Friday's session with a 5 p.m. tipoff. First-round winners will advance to the regional at 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Gustavus earned the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's automatic berth with a 66-53 win over No. 24 Bethel in the MIAC Playoff Championship. Wartburg, seeded second in the regional, defeated Coe, 61-55, in the American Rivers Conference tournament championship game to earn its conference's automatic bid to the tourney. UW-Stevens Point received one of 21 at-large bids after falling to UW-La Crosse in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament, 71-67.

Gustavus Adolphus ended the 2024-25 regular season ranked seventh in the NCAA's final National Power Index (NPI), followed by Wartburg (No. 17), Stevens Point (No. 43), and Wisconsin Lutheran (No. 69).

The 64-team, single-elimination tournament consists of 43 automatic qualifiers and 21 at-large bids. The semifinals and championship will be held at the Cregger Center in Salem, Virginia, on March 20 and 22.
