MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) has announced its all-conference team and major awards for the 2025 men's volleyball season.
All honors were determined by a vote of the league's 13 head coaches.
Player of the Year - Josh McLellan, Jr., OH, Aurora University
McLellan, a junior outside hitter, has played in 27 of 28 matches for Aurora this season, recording 371 kills while posting a .311 hitting percentage. He has also contributed 126 digs, 33 blocks (four solo), 17 service aces, and six assists.
McLellan has recorded double figures in kills on 22 occasions, led by a season-high 24 against Benedictine on March 25. He also posted 22 kills against just four errors on 44 attempts for a .409 attack percentage in a five-set win at MSOE on April 5 to clinch the Spartans' first outright NACC title and third consecutive crown overall. McLellan had two double-doubles during the season and had at least eight digs on three other occasions - including nine in the regular-season finale against MSOE.
McLellan leads all NACC players in kills per set at 4.12 - a figure that also ranks 12th in NCAA Division III. He also ranks second in the conference in points per set (4.52), fifth in attacks per set (9.22), and seventh in hitting percentage (.311).
McLellan is the second Aurora student-athlete in three seasons to be named NACC Men's Volleyball Player of the Year. James Karwin captured the honor in 2023.
Defensive Player of the Year - Alex Nonhof, Sr., DS, Aurora University
Nonhof, a senior defensive specialist, has played in 26 of Aurora's 28 matches heading into Thursday's NACC Tournament semifinal against Dominican. He has posted 262 digs and 51 assists.
On 13 occasions, Nonhof posted double figures in digs, led by a 23-dig effort in a four-set win over UC Santa Cruz on March 29 and a 22-dig performance in Aurora's five-set win at MSOE on April 5 that secured the program's third-straight - and first outright - NACC title. He had at least eight digs on six other occasions.
Nonhof also had a season-high five assists in a sweep of nationally-ranked Loras on March 7.
Nonhof leads all NACC players in digs per set at 2.98 - a mark that ranks 15th nationally.
Nonhof is the first Aurora student-athlete to be named NACC Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year.
Freshman of the Year - Brady Pichler, Fr., OPP, Wisconsin Lutheran College
Pichler, a freshman opposite, played in 23 of Wisconsin Lutheran's 25 matches this season, posting 329 kills, 154 digs, 48 blocks (13 solo), 25 service aces, and 14 assists.
Pichler reached double figures in kills in all but one match this season, topping out at 21 on three separate occasions - Jan. 11 against Calvin, Feb. 4 at North Park, and Feb. 18 against Marian. He added another 20-kill performance in a four-set win over St. NorbertĀ on March 8.
Pichler had eight double-doubles during the course of the season, recording a season-high 18 digs against Concordia Chicago on March 19. He also had three matches with four blocks.
Pichler ranked second amongst NACC players - and ninth nationally - in attacks per set (9.89). He also ranked fourth in the league in kills per set (3.78) and points per set (4.42), 13th in aces per set (.287), 20th in hitting percentage (.220), and 23rd in blocks per set (.552).
Pichler's efforts help the Warriors to an 8-17 record overall, which doubled the program's single-season win mark and matched the program's total number of wins over its initial four years of existence. WLC also went a program-best 4-8 in league play and was fighting for a NACC Tournament berth until the final weekend of the season.
Pichler is the first Wisconsin Lutheran student-athlete to capture a NACC major award in men's volleyball.
Coaching Staff of the Year - Milwaukee School of Engineering (Shane Reid, head coach)
Under the direction of 10th-year head coach
Shane Reid, MSOE tied for second in the NACC with a 10-2 mark after being picked fifth in the preseason poll. The Raiders came within one set of securing the title before falling Aurora in a thrilling five-setter in the regular-season finale but still secured the No. 2 seed in the NACC Tournament. MSOE takes a 13-11 overall record into Thursday's NACC Tournament semifinal against Benedictine.
MSOE leads all NCAA Division III programs in attacks (33.34) and digs (12.93) per set, while ranking second amongst NACC programs in assists (11.35) and kills (12.25) per set, and opponents' hitting percentage (.174), and third in blocks per set (2.176).
Reid is assisted by
Jake Oberbruner and
Joe Perez.
This is the second time Reid or a Reid-coached MSOE staff has been recognized by the league's coaches. Reid was named NACC Coach of the Year in 2019 before the award's scope was expanded to recognize an institution's entire coaching staff.
All-Conference Team Announced
The top three teams in the final league standings - Aurora, MSOE, and Benedictine - accounted for 14 of 24 all-conference selections, including eight of 12 first-teamers. The Spartans and Eagles each landing three on the first team and two on the second team. MSOE, meanwhile, had two first-team picks and two second-team picks. Concordia Chicago, Dominican, and Marian all had two all-league picks with one each on the first and second teams. Wisconsin Lutheran's Brady Pichler - this year's NACC Freshman of the Year - secured the final first-team spot, while Concordia Wisconsin, Illinois Tech, and St. Norbert each had one second-team selection.
