CLEVELAND, Ohio --- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team closed its season Friday with a 4-0 loss to No. 16 Haverford College in an NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship first-round match at the Carlton Courts on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.
The Scarlet Hawks (12-10) dropped the doubles point as the Fords (16-5) posted wins on the top two courts. Alexander Feher and Avneet Singh fell to Justin Minerva and James McKenzie, 6-0, on court one, while Pedro Roca and Hozumi Tada fell to Marko Arboleda and Owen Kilmer, 6-2, on court two.
Illinois Tech's Pol Dueso Guell and Eduardo Lopez were leading Teo Bortan and Zach Miano, 4-3, when the match was abandoned.
Switching to singles play, Haverford picked up the first-set win on four of six courts. The Fords closed out the match with straight-set wins on courts two, five, and six. Roca and Tada scored first-set victories for the Scarlet Hawks.
Haverford advances to face No. 13 Kenyon College (18-5) Saturday in a second-round match.
