Wisconsin Lutheran Captures 14th NACC Women's Basketball Tournament Crown

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Wisconsin Lutheran College defeated St. Norbert College, 48-29, Sunday at the Time of Grace Center to capture the program's 14th Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) Women's Basketball Tournament crown in 20 years.

Wisconsin Lutheran (23-5) will learn its regional assignment and first-round opponent on the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Selection Show, which is slated for 1:30 p.m. CT Monday, March 2 on NCAA.com.

St. Norbert (18-8) scored the game's first two points on a pair of Marnie Kahl free throws, but Wisconsin Lutheran outscored the Green Knights, 17-4, the rest of the period to take an 11-point lead. The Warriors shot 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from the field and hit two of three 3-pointers in the opening stanza, while limiting St. Norbert to just 2-of-17 shooting (11.8 percent).

Wisconsin Lutheran cooled off in the second quarter, shooting just 4-of-12 from the field, but still managed to extend its lead to 15 points at the halftime break. 

The teams combined for just nine points on 3-for-27 in the third quarter, but a trio of free throws allowed the hosts to extend the lead by another point headed into the final quarter.

Five straight points from Madeline Leffel pushed Wisconsin Lutheran's advantage to a game-high 24 points with 6:28 to play. St. Norbert outscored the Warriors, 8-3, down the stretch as both teams cleared their benches.

Kenly Frey scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Warriors, who finished the game shooting 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the field. Tournament MVP Margie Stevens added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Leffel had seven points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Green Knights finished the game shooing 19.6 percent (10-of-51) from the field and came up empty on all 15 attempts from behind the 3-point arc. Taylor Thiry posted a team-high 14 points and pulled down four rebounds. Oakley Witteck added seven points, while Witteck and Avery Bierowski each pulled down six boards.
