Illinois Tech Edges MSOE for NACC Men's Tennis Tournament Crown

KOHLER, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Illinois Institute of Technology won four of six singles matches to edge Milwaukee School of Engineering, 4-3, for the 2026 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men's Tennis Tournamemt crown Sunday at Sports Core Health and Racquet Club.

It is the third consecutive NACC Men's Tennis Tournament title for the Scarlet Hawks and the sixth since Illinois Tech joined the NACC for the 2018-19 academic year.

MSOE (9-12) picked up the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Randy Funez and Carlos Lopez paired for a 6-3 win over Tanay Sharma and Alexander Feher at No. 1 and Augusto Yamazaki and Pedro Mendes topped Pol Dueso Guell and Tejas Sheth for a 6-2 victory on court three. Illinois Tech salvaged a victory in the final doubles match as Pedro Roca and Hozumi Tada defeated Miguel Lopez and Emilio Ulloa, 6-3, on court two.

Illinois Tech (14-5) stormed back on the singles courts as Pedro Roca (6-0, 6-2), Tanay Sharma (6-1, 6-4), and Joseph Au (6-2, 6-1) scored straight-set victories on courts two, one, and six, to take a 3-1 lead.

MSOE extended the match with a straight-set win by Carlos Patino on court four, while Yamazaki tied the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over Feher on court three. 

The excitement generated by Yamazaki's win was snuffed out just minutes later as Tada closed out the match with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Carlos Lopez on court five.

The Scarlet Hawks will learn their regional destination and first-round opponent on a NCAA selection show at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 4.
