LAKE FOREST, Ill. --- Lake Forest College Assistant Vice President for Athletics
Jim Catanzaro recently announced that
Lindsey LeMay has been hired as the Foresters' next head women's lacrosse coach.
"I'm extremely excited to have Coach LeMay join our staff," began Catanzaro. "Her list of accomplishments as a coach, recruiter, and mentor is beyond impressive and I look forward to seeing what an already successful program here at the College can achieve under her leadership. What stood out about her in the search process was a commitment to the total development of her athletes and the unwavering passion she has for coaching lacrosse. The way she talked about her previous coaching stops and her desire to find a new place to pour herself into was unmatched."
LeMay comes to Lake Forest after seven years as the head coach at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University. The Wildcats were 66-45 overall in that span after posting a record of 8-38 during the previous three years. They broke the single-season program record for victories four years in a row with the 2024 squad's mark of 14-5 now atop the list. Her teams were also 25-19 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and advanced to the GLIAC Tournament final each of the last four seasons.
Players at Northern Michigan have earned several awards during LeMay's tenure. She coached the GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2023 and 2024, the GLIAC Defender of the Year in 2023, and the back-to-back GLIAC Attacker of the Year the last two seasons. Three different Wildcats have earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Region accolades, including an IWLCA/USA Lacrosse Magazine Third Team All-American this spring. Players on the team also earned 40 all-conference accolades in a six-year span and LeMay herself was recognized with GLIAC Coach of the Year honors in 2023.
In addition to directing her team to unprecedented success on the field, LeMay has taken on numerous leadership roles off of it. She has served on multiple awards, polling, and ranking committees for the IWLCA and NCAA and has also represented Northern Michigan on league-wide committees. She was also art of several on-campus organizations, including one she helped start that focuses on mental health, and was recognized in 2024 by The Hidden Opponent as a coach "Setting the Standard" on mental health awareness.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Northern Michigan, LeMay was an assistant at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and the associate head coach at her alma mater, Corvalis High School in Oregon.
"I am beyond thrilled to begin this new chapter at Lake Forest College," commented LeMay. "After building a program I loved for the last seven years, I wasn't sure I would find another place that felt like home, but as soon as I stepped on campus here I knew the fit was right. This is a place where people thrive. Back on the shore of a Great Lake and surrounded by a department and college of like--minded people, I am excited to build on the culture of success that already exists in the Lake Forest women's lacrosse program. Thank you to Coach Catanzaro for this opportunity and Go Foresters!"
LeMay's first day on campus will be July 6 and her debut as the Foresters' head coach is scheduled for on February 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
