MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Wisconsin Lutheran College's Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) has been named College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-America®, the organization announced on Tuesday. After being recognized last season as CSC Second Team Academic All-America®, Broeckel is the first player in program history to receive First Team honors.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA and the proper athletic accomplishments to make the ballot. Broeckel was previously named Academic All-District® and advanced to the national ballot.
Broeckel, who carries a 3.80 grade point average in WLC's leadership and innovation graduate program, has previously earned D3hoops.com First Team All-American, NABC Second Team All-American, D3hoops.com Region VIII Player of the Year, D3hoops.com First Team All-Region VIII, and NABC First Team All-District VIII accolades.
The three-time Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Player of the Year averaged 18.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. He ranked in the top 25 nationally in blocks (20th/57) and total rebounds (20th/270). Additionally, Broeckel topped all NACC players in field goals (210), field goal attempts (429), and offensive rebounds per game (3.26), and ranked second in blocks, double-doubles (11), points (560), and rebounds.
Broeckel was joined by Adam Brazil (Hampden-Sydney), Tate Ivanyo (Anderson), AJ Rohosy (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), and Ryan Thissen (Saint John's) on the First Team.
