CUW's Sainz De Rozas Claims NCAA Title in 5K, MSOE's Springer All-American in 800

LA CROSSE, Wis. (naccsports.org) — Just two days removed from a runner-up finish in the 10,000-meter run, Concordia University Wisconsin senior Ainara Sainz De Rozas closed out her collegiate career with a dominating victory in the 5,000 as the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships drew to a close Saturday inside Roger Harring Stadium at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.

As was the case in Thursday's 10K, the race very quickly became a two-person affair between Sainz De Rozas and Elle Marsyla of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps - the NCAA 10,000-meter champion. Unlike Thursday, however, Sainz De Rozas would leave little doubt as to the result. She led by two seconds at the 1K mark and extended the advantage over Marsyla to 13 seconds by the time they hit the 3K mark and to almost 20 seconds as the runners took the bell. Marsyla again used a huge kick on the final lap to cut into Sainz De Rozas' advantage, but this time the gap was insurmountable. Sainz De Rozas stopped the clock in 16:08.15, 15 seconds clear of Marsyla and the rest of the field.

Sainz De Rozas' time broke her own NACC all-time record of 16:17.01 set in April at the UW-Platteville Invitational.

Milwaukee School of Engineering junior Austin Springer produced the NACC's initial first-team all-America honor of the day with a fifth-place finish in the 800. Springer sat seventh after the opening 400 but was able to advance two positions over the final 400 to finish with a time of 1:49.73. ?

Edgewood University senior Kylee Doherty claimed her second all-America honor with an 11th-place finish in the javelin throw. Her top mark of 42.07 meters (138-0) came on her third-and-final throw of the competition. She placed eighth in the discus throw on Thursday.

St. Norbert College senior Ezra Schermacher also claimed second-team all-America honors with a 16th-place finish in the men's pole vault. Schermacher cleared both the opening height of 4.75 meters (15-7) and the second height of 4.90 meters (16-0 3/4) in his second attempt, but bowed out of the competition after three misses at 5.00 meters (16-4 3/4).
