RIPON, Wis. --- St. Norbert College won seven of 17 events to roll up 164 points en route to the women's title at the 2013 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Willmore Center on the campus of Ripon College.
Edgewood College's
Rachel Ehrhart was named NACC Track Athlete of the Meet, while
Sydney Spaeth of league champion St. Norbert was named NACC Field Athlete of the Meet. Freshman of the Meet honors went to
Olivia Jameson of Illinois Institute of Technology. St. Norbert also captured NACC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
NACC Track Athlete of the Meet --- Rachel Ehrhart, Edgewood
Ehrhart won both the 800-meter (2:25.08) and mile (5:08.83) runs and placed fourth in the 3,000 (10:53.34), while also anchoring the Eagles to a victory in the distance medley relay (12:58.83).
She missed the championship record in the mile by just .18 seconds.
Carolyn Evers,
Trinity Burg, and
Hadley Hackinson joined Ehrhart on the top step of the podium in the DMR.
This weekend's performance continues a banner year for Ehrhart, who won the women's individual title at the NACC Cross Country Championships last fall and was named NACC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year.
NACC Field Athlete of the Meet --- Sydney Spaeth, St. Norbert
Spaeth, a senior, won the triple jump (11.64 meters; 38-2 1/4), took second in the long jump (5.45m; 17-10 3/4), and placed sixth in the high jump (1.49m; 4-10 1/2).
Her championship-winning effort in the triple jump fell just one centimeter short of matching the meet record of 11.65 meters set by MSOE's Jerica Kotarak in 2016.
Spaeth also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles.
NACC Freshman of the Meet --- Olivia Jameson, Illinois Tech
Jameson won the high jump, clearing 1.63 meters (5-4 1/4) to win a jump-off with St. Norbert's
Lauren Rottier. She also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.59) and ninth in the 60-meter dash (8.33), just missing the final in the championship's fastest event by just 0.01 seconds.
The wins by Jameson in the high jump and Amelia Moseman in the 400 (1:00.25) provided Illinois Tech with its first two women's champions at the NACC indoor meet.
Record Setters
In addition to Jameson in the high jump, three other championship marks - and two all-time NACC marks - were broken at the 2023 championships.
Eve Shelton of Concordia Chicago won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.38 seconds. The preliminary times of both Shelton (9.29) and runner-up Spaeth (9.31) came in under the championship record time of 9.35 seconds set by Benedictine's Ayah Mustafa in last year's championship prelims.
Kash Allen of Benedictine won the shot put with a NACC all-time best effort of 13.95 meters (45-9 1/4), bettering the previous all-time best of 13.71 meters (44-11 3/4) set by Aurora's Hannah Meager in 2018 and the championship mark of 13.47 meters (44-2 1/2) set by Concordia Chicago's Maddie Bobinski just one year ago. She also finished third in the weight throw (14.54m; 47-8 1/2).
St. Norbert's
Grace Kowalkowski cleared 3.75 meters (12-3 1/2) to win the pole vault, erasing the NACC Championship mark of 3.51 meters posted by CUW's Taylor Corkrum in 2018.
Rottier racked up 3,392 points en route to a new all-time NACC standard in the pentathlon. She bettered the previous all-time mark of 3,350 she had set at UW-Whitewater in late January as well as the previous NACC Championship record of 3,208 she set in 2022.
Rottier also set the championship record in the high jump by clearing 1.64 meters (5-4 1/2) during the pentathlon competition, bettering the previous record of 1.63 meters set by Aurora's Shelby Bergholz at the 2020 NACC Championships.
In addition to her win in the pentathlon and runner-up finish in the open high jump (1.62m; 5-3 3/4), Rottier anchored St. Norbert's 4x400 relay to victory in the final event of the championships.
Katie Schultz, Kennedy Marquardt, and
Nikki Tranel ran the opening three legs for the Green Knights.
Aurora's
Deyanneira Colon Maldonado (18:46.61) repeated as NACC champion in the 5000 meters on Friday by just 2.2 seconds over CUW's Anessa Yim, but saw her chance at a distance double slip away by roughly the same margin on Saturday in the 3000 as MSOE's
Kaitlyn Rodman (10:32.49) picked up the victory.
CUW's
Maya Hielscher took the title in the long jump after clearing 5.53 meters (18-1 3/4).
