Concordia Wisconsin Advances in NCAA Softball Regional

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin has advanced to an NCAA Division III Regional final for the second-straight season. The 14th-ranked Falcons defeated Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 9-1, in six innings, to improve to 39-3 on the year.

The Falcons started the scoring in the first inning with three runs.

Sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) blasted a sacrifice fly to right field to score junior Madi Wheat (Coweta, Okla.).

Senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) then smacked a single to right-center field to score senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) and sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

The Titans scored their lone run of the game in the top of the third inning.

The Falcons responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Senior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) started the scoring with a shot to third base to send in Pozezinski.

Freshman Rylie DuVal dropped the ball into left field to land Gaziano and Utz.

Senior Sydney Erdmann continued to dominate the regional tournament with a single through the middle to send home Zappa.

The scoring in the third closed off the bat of Wheat when she singled to shortstop to plate DuVal.

Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) closed her day in the circle with a 1-2-3 inning in the fourth inning and ended with a strikeout.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) closed the game in the circle and had two strikeouts.

Bloyer ended the game in the sixth inning with a single to right-center field when Wheat crossed home plate.

Erdmann and Wheat both had three hits, while Gaziano added a stolen base in the victory.

The Falcons will face Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday morning, needing just one win to capture the regional title.
