BenU's Allen, SNC's Rottier Capture All-America Honors at NCAA Championships

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (naccsports.org) --- The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) scored two more all-America honors Friday and advanced three individuals to event finals on the track during day two of the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Champinships at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex on the campus of St. John Fisher University.

Benedictine University's Kash Allen continued her assault on the NACC women's shot put record en route to a national runner-up finish. Allen, who also finished second at indoor nationals in March, ranked in the top three of the competition following each of her attempts. She opened with a throw of 14.32 meters (46-11 3/4), then added a throw of 14.43 meters (47-4 1/4) in the prelims before unleashing a NACC-record toss of 14.81 meters (48-7 1/4) on her first throw of the finals. Allen erased her own mark of 14.67 meters (48-1 3/4) set at the Wheaton Invitational in mid-April.

St. Norbert College's Lauren Rottier capped her senior season with an all-America finish in the heptathlon, placing sixth with a NACC-record 4,926 points. She broke the mark of 4,893 points set by MSOE's Catherine Chappell at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Rottier entered the day in sixth with 2,943 points, then finished in the top third of the 22-competitor field in both the long jump (seventh, 5.51m) and javelin (sixth, 37.47m) before holding on with a 2:32.60 clocking in the 800. She benefited from the fact that her closest pursuers all finished with comparable 800 times (or worse) to hers and were unable to make up any substantial points gaps.

Kayla Armstrong and Simone Wilson, both of Concordia University Chicago, advanced to the final of the women's 400. Wilson, a two-time national champion in the 400 hurdles running in the opening preliminary heat, finished third in her heat with a season-best time of 55.96. She then needed to sweat out the final two heats to see if her time would hold. Ultimately, it did, but only by the slimmest of margins. Wilson posted the eighth-best qualifying time, edging ninth place by just 0.01 seconds. Armstrong, on the other hand, left no doubt as to whether she would advance to Saturday's final. The defending national champion in the event, she won her heat with a season-best time of 54.74 seconds.

Benedictine's DJ Anderson advanced to the final of the men's 400 with a blistering time of 46.65 seconds to set a new NACC all-time record, erasing the time of 46.74 he set just two weeks ago at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invitational. He finished second in his heat to Gallaudet's Eric Gregory, the defending national champion who posted the top qualifying time with a 46.13 clocking - a time that ranks seventh on the NCAA Division III all-time list. Anderson looks to improve on a fifth-place finish from the 2022 championships.

Aurora University's Steven Tinsley placed 20th in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.41 meters (47-3 1/2) on his third and final attempt of the preliminaries.

In the women's pole vault, St. Norbert's Grace Kowalkowski tied for 18th place overall after clearing 3.50 meters (11-5 3/4) on her first attempt. She went out of the competition after three consecutive misses after the bar was raised to 3.65m (11-11 3/4).

Aurora's Robbie Peterson and St. Norbert's Sydney Spaeth get the final day of competition underway for the NACC at 10 a.m. when they compete in the men's high jump and women's triple jump, respectively. Peterson enters the competition seeded 20th of 22 competitors with a best mark of 2.03m (6-7 3/4), while Spaeth is seeded sixth with a mark of 12.16m (39-10 3/4).

Anderson will follow at 2:10 p.m. ET in the men's 400 final, with Armstrong and Wilson contesting the women's 400 final immediately following at 2:20 p.m. ET.
