MILWAUKEE, Wis. (naccsports.org) --- Benedictine University's
Marvin Agwomoh (men's track), Concordia University Chicago's
Gustavo Alvarez (men's field) and
Kayla Armstrong (women's track), and St. Norbert College's
Lauren Rottier (women's field) have been named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of May 1-7, 2023, as selected by the league's athletics communications directors.
Men's Track --- Marvin Agwomoh, sr., Benedictine University
Agwomoh, a senior from Orland Park, Illinois, was named Male Track Athlete of the Meet at last weekend's NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes and anchored the Eagles to victory in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Agwomoh clocked in at 10.73 seconds in the 100 final and edged teammate
DJ Anderson for the win in the 200 with a time of 21.76.
Agwomoh was joined by Anderson,
Demitri Spencer, and
Amir Blanchard on the 4x100 which posted a 42.27 and edged MSOE by 0.06 seconds. Agwomoh, Anderson, and Spencer - along with lead leg
Devery Hodge - won the 4x400 in 3:22.34.
Men's Field --- Gustavo Alvarez, sr., Concordia University Chicago
Alvarez, a senior from Chicago, won the pole vault at last weekend's NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships by clearing a championship-record height of 4.78 meters (15-8 1/4). He also picked up a fifth-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 44.30 meters (145-4).
Women's Track --- Kayla Armstrong, gr., Concordia University Chicago
Armstrong, a graduate student from Chicago, was named Track Athlete of the Meet at last weekend's NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She won both the 200- and 400-meter dashes and anchored the Cougars' winning 4x400 relay. Armstrong won the 200 in 24.65 seconds and the 400 in 56.05 - both in facility-record times. In the relay, the quartet of
Eve Shelton,
Daisia Wilson,
Simone Wilson, and Armstrong stopped the clock in 4:03.04 - four seconds clear of of the field.
Women's Field --- Lauren Rottier, sr., St. Norbert College
Rottier, a senior from Seymour, Wisconsin, racked up 28 points in field events and was named Female Field Athlete of the Meet at last weekend's NACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished second in the high jump (1.57m; 5-1 3/4) and long jump (5.58m; 18-3 3/4) and third in both the pole vault (3.11m; 10-2 1/2) and javelin throw (37.90m; 124-4) as the Green Knights won the team championship. Rottier also competed on the track, winning the 100 hurdles (15.31) and featured as the lead leg on St. Norbert's winning 4x100 and runner-up 4x400 relays.
